Designer Rug By Dinosaur Designs

Flooring, Home accessories, Inspiration, Interiors April 12th, 2011

A friend was dropping off magazines in Master 6′s class for cutting out and…well, ruining – when I discovered a fantastic design and decor magazine among them.  Home it came and I fell head over heels for this rug just a few pages in.  Now, you know I have a love affair with Dinosaur Designs jewellery, but what’s better than having all that colour beneath your feet all year round!  And there are a few other variations to choose from in the Dinosaur Designs collection.

Designer Rugs in Australia has done a series with Australian artists and designers – with so many more I adore it’s hard to choose just one.   And because they ship anywhere in the world, it’s worth taking a look at their collection right here.

Crisp Home – NZ Decor Store

Home accessories, Kitchen, Textiles March 22nd, 2011

Recently my good friend Julia, launched her online business of bed linen (manchester) that is designed and manufactured in New Zealand – think Pottery Barn gone clean and crisp.  Complementing it is also a range of accessories including beach towels, bags and candles.  The range will be steadily growing with demand, and Crisp Home also has a stylish kids range.

My favourite product in the line-up is the Chef’s Candle.  I swear by it while cooking meat or any strong smelling dishes – it is a magical candle that is made with 100% soy wax and helps get rid of cooking smells…plus the smell of the candle is yummy and not overpowering. Yay!  Buy it for NZ$25 right here.

Icon Tap and Mixer By Astra Walker

Home accessories, Inspiration, Kitchen January 26th, 2011

Yesterday I posted about the Vola tapware, and today while looking through this magazine’s gallery, by sheer good fortune I found the Icon range by Astra Walker.  Now here is the far more affordable version, plus it’s easy to order for us down-under. Australian made, the Icon and Icon+ ranges comes in five colours plus the usual chrome, and the best part is they start at only AUD$400 and go up to AUD$1569 for the floor standing bath mixer.  Yay!

KV1 Kitchen Tap Mixer

DIY, Home accessories, Inspiration, Kitchen January 25th, 2011

Just looking at this tap makes me wish I had a house to renovate!  At last a mixer that is bright and cheery for the kitchen and one that saves on some shining time.

Designed by Verner Overgaard and Arne Jacobsen for Vola, it also has matching tapware for the bathroom.  The range comes in 18 different colours and starts at about NZ$1700.00.  It’s quite a lot isn’t it, but if you’re building a whole new house, that amount looks small to the total amount huh?  Well, that’s my way of justifying it!  De De Ce in Syndey stocks Vola products and should be able to order this for you.

Kitchen Timers

Home accessories, Kitchen January 25th, 2011

I was pottering in a store the other day and came across one of the Robert Gordon Cake Shaped Timers. They were selling for NZ$50 – ouch,  so I went hunting to see if they were cheaper elsewhere.  I am in need of a timer, not for cooking, but for Master 6 and his friends sharing the computer!

The Cake shaped timer comes in three versions and can be purchased from an Australian site for about AUD$18 right here.  If they do not have them in stock call Robert Gordon.

While busy searching, I spied this great Champagne Bucket Kitchen Timer here.  I’ve decided this is perfect for my sister (who loves bubbly) and cooks alot! NZ$11.00.

Granny Shelf – Lovely Lace

Home accessories, Kitchen November 8th, 2010

This shelf reminds me of the bicycle basket I wrote about a while back.  It’s feminine even in the black version and is such a nice change from the modern floating wood shelf.  Made of powder coated steel it is extremely strong to hold heavy objects, and can also be used outdoors.  You can buy it online right here for about NZ$260 plus shipping.

Designer: Beerd van Stokkum Netherlands
Colours: Black or White (UV proof)
Dimension: Width 85 cm. Depth 22.5 cm.

Decorative Tape – Prettying Up Your Presents

Home accessories, Paper November 7th, 2010

A while back I posted about rice paper tape, which you can now buy at Borders in Sylvia Park Mall.  If you are wanting something even a little more fancy, then this tape is for you.

It would look stunning against bright red or gold wrapping paper for Christmas.  The story behind this tape goes all the way to Paris.  Marie-Héléne de Taillac is a Parisian jeweller and designer of this tape.  The jewels are photos of a real ring in a band of colours, from blues, greens to pinks and reds; and Amanda at Nonsuchthings has a limited stock of the tape for US$12 plus shipping. Click here to purchase a roll.

Orla Kiely Radio – Pure Evoke Mio

Home accessories, Kitchen November 7th, 2010

I have no radio in our house, so never listen to the latest hits, or get to listen to my playlists on my phone.  It would be nice, though with Miss 18mths chattering, and listening to her TV shows, silence is golden when she’s in bed!

While over at Decor8, this cool radio, the PURE Evoke Mio DAB caught my eye because of the Orla Kiely print.  It’s groovy looking, has a connection for your MP3 player and best of all, a kitchen timer!  It’s pricey though at NZ$303.   Get it from John Lewis UK.

Packaging Love – Savon de Marseille Anniversary Soap

Art Beautiful Stuff, Home accessories, Kitchen October 5th, 2010

The Marseille artist Stephan Muntaner was commissioned to design this collection of stunning art for La Compagnie de Provence – the Savon de Marseille Liquid Soap.  The three designs are named after different fish – La Girelle, La Maquerean and La Sardine; though the soap fragrance is sea inspired and divine .  As it’s a limited edition, it won’t be around for ever which means you really should get yours now. The standard range is sold in many stores, but the best idea to find the anniversary bottles would be a google search for….’salon de marseille anniversary soap’.  US$28.

Salt and Pepper Shaker Yacht – Art Deco Delight

Home accessories, Kitchen September 13th, 2010

Love this Memory of Falmouth Salt and Pepper Shaker.  It reminds me of the china Grandma use to have locked up in her glass side cabinet.  Buy it online in the US or UK from this site, for NZ$80.  It sits about 4 inches high.

Zen Vortex Rainbow Indoor Outdoor Rug

Flooring, Home accessories, Outdoors September 2nd, 2010

If I could have a rug in my dream yoga studio – this would be it.  Right in the reception area, just spreading the joy to all those who walk through the door.  Liora Manne is the lady who designed it using a process called Lamontage – it is antimicrobial and 100% acrylic plus it can be used indoors or out.  Take a look at her range of gorgeous rugs here and gallery here.  Swoon!

Update:  if you would like one shipped directly from their factory in China to Australia or NZ, you can get a 2-metre version for about US$1000 plus only US$100 shipping – that’s instead of it going back to the US and having it shipped from there.

Colourful And Crisp – A Mod Renovation

Cool Homes, DIY, Flooring, Furniture, Home accessories, Inspiration, Interiors, Kitchen, Lighting, Windows + Walls August 25th, 2010

We have been looking at buying a home for a while since our return from Australia, and so the hunting continues.  While clicking my way through quite a few pics, I saw this beauty in Devonport on the North Shore in Auckland.  It is sooo me.  The colour, the furniture, the kitchen, all of it.  It’s for sale if you like it and to view more images click here.  The current owner and renovater is an interior designer, so it’s no wonder the place rocks! It’s also been in a couple of home magazines, so enjoy.

Calm Bathroom and A FirePlace On Legs

Cool Homes, Home accessories, Inspiration, Interiors, Windows + Walls August 19th, 2010

These two photos are from a great home renovation in Redondo Beach – see the slideshow here.

The first image caught my eye as the many many tiles make it feel spa like, plus their colour is very calming, they are from Ann Sacks, a US company with a huge selection of ceramic and glass tiles for any area of the home.

I had to show you what a feminine fireplace looks like.  And the glass underneath is so much more chic that a tiled, built-up hearth.  Wittus, a US company has a large range of very hip fireplaces that they can ship to your door.  This one, called the Shaker is made in Germany and designed by Antonio Citterio – of course, something will always catch my eye when it’s near the Woods wallpaper by Cole and Son.  The kicker (always one when a designer is involved; it weighs nearly 140kgs and costs US$4,280 – that’s NZ$6000)!  Those long lovely legs almost makes it worth the price, but then there’s all that wood to put on…

Elica Cooker Hoods And Rangehoods – Oo La La

Home accessories, Kitchen August 18th, 2010

After watching an episode of Grand Designs I fell head over heels for a cooker hood called ‘Star’!  Just look at it – it’s sooo gorgeous and so much nicer looking than those practical rectangle jobs we all have in our home.

The Elica Designer Collection by D R Cookers are to die for…well, to save for more like it!   The Star Chandelier cooker hood is about £1700.00 (NZ$3700 – worth every cent I think).  They do have more traditional, integrated cooker hoods as well, so go take a look at their large collection right here.  You would have to contact the UK company to ask about shipping down-under, but I am sure they would have this service available.  Now for a kitchen of our own that needs a new rangehood…

Rice Paper Tape – Prettier Than Sellotape

Home accessories, Kids July 28th, 2010

We have had seven birthday parties in a row – each weekend another little boy or girl turns 6 and so we have been wrapping quite a few presents.  The sellotape seems to have disappeared and as I am always wrapping at the last minute, we have ended up using duraseal (for covering school books)……I know, bad huh.  Over at Blossom Creations, they have a great range of rice paper tape among many other household goodies from your desk to your kitchen.  This is the tape I would much prefer to use, the patterns are yet another way to personalise your gift.  These cost only AUD$5 a roll or you can purchase in a set.   Go take a look right here.

Red Letter Day – Cavallini & Co in Matakana

Art Beautiful Stuff, Home accessories, Inspiration, Paper July 18th, 2010

Last weekend, I took Mum and Dad up to Matakana Markets outside Auckland so we could eat some great food and enjoy the crisp cool morning outdoors.  While we wandered around, Miss 15mths steered me into the shop Red Letter Day.  No, she is not a stationery nut – she saw a large poster of a camel and wanted to go and say ‘baa’ (like a sheep)…hehe.

Well, I fell head over heels for the Cavallini & Co products, (of which there were many) – among a lot of other lovely writing accessories.  Flora, fauna and geographic notebooks…box sets of divine stamps…flashcards and even decorative wrap – that you just couldn’t use because it’s too beautiful.  You can buy from Red Letter’s website, though really it is worth a drive to Matakana for the food, and the bunch of specialty shops tucked around the market area.
