Tikoli Teatowels – Summer So Pretty

Home accessories, Inspiration, Kitchen, Textiles November 21st, 2008

It’s coming up summer here and these would look bright and beautiful hanging over the oven door handle (mine are always hidden on the inside cupboard door).  The tea towels all mix and match and you can get them online right here.  Or, if you are the type or gal or girl who likes to see before you buy, then you can go to the Green Grocer in Melbourne, Australia where they sell a selection.  Best thing, they are about NZ$17 each and the Tikoli online store ships globally…woohoo.

Hand Book Ends

Home accessories, Inspiration, Kids November 20th, 2008

I had been looking for hand bookends for a while after spying them in a post.  So here are the one’s I spotted, designed by Jonathan Adler for Barnes and Noble, they are only US$12.95 and they ship internationally.   The others (if you don’t like pale blue) are from this store for US$10.75; again they also ship overseas.  The best thing is, both have a piece that sits under books so they don’t slide away from all your stack – (I use them the other way around to the images) as the books sit in the centre, on the top of Master Fours long side table.

Wood LED Clock

Home accessories, Kids November 18th, 2008

Master Four has asked for his own clock in his room and I just can’t seem to put our old alarm clock in there. (With its ugly silver with buttons all over it etc)…..so I came across this one.  So ok, yeah it’s loads of money for a clock in a kids room, compared with the $20 U.G.L.Y version, but it’s just perfect for his simple room. Lets hope they have it on sale sometime soon.  Get it here for NZ$125.

Pantone Mugs

Kitchen November 17th, 2008

These are everywhere online, on blogs and websites, and guess what?…I found them down-under for sale. Pantone Mugs right here for NZ$245 for a set of 10.  Very hip apparently!

Wallpaper You Can Colour In

DIY, Kids, Paper, Windows + Walls November 16th, 2008

If you have some time on your hands then I suggest wallpapering with this.  Designed by Jon Burgerman, you can colour this wallpaper in any colour you desire, come back to it later or just complete a part of it.   You can get it from this store in East Sussex, but I am not sure they post internationally – although the stockists page has an Australian contact.  Or you could try this store, it says they will ship internationally….it costs NZ$120 for a 10m roll.

Adventures On Etsy – Handwoven Earrings

Adventures on Etsy, Jewels November 15th, 2008

These earrings are beautiful, the colours are stunning and I can’t make up my mind which pair to get. Years ago, when my sisters were in High School I remember them making something similar but on wooden boards to hang on the wall.  Take a look at the range, starting at US$15.  Sincear Jewelry over at Etsy.

So here’s a round up of cool homes of all shapes and styles.  Shoot Factory is an agency that lists your house – well not just any house – a great looking, very tidy, perfectly maintained home.  There are so many to look at that you will need a coffee and biscuit and about 30 minutes of time to lust after them all!

Tea Light Cover From Polli

Home accessories, Lighting November 13th, 2008

These are so pretty.  I am imagining a few scattered around my outdoor table this BBQ season at dusk….they would surely be a conversation starter.  Etched from thin sheets of stainless steel, detailed with beautiful patterns, the candle is suspended on an internal metal shelf. Get them right here for AUD$50 online or see the stockists page where you can buy them right here in New Zealand, in Australia and almost anywhere else.

Art Beautiful Stuff, Home accessories, Kitchen November 12th, 2008

Aren’t these great – part of Jonathan Adler’s Menagerie collection are ceramic salt and pepper shakers that come as a pair of cats, fish or birds.  Starting at US$48, you can get them shipped anywhere in the world, take a look here at his website for more goodies.

Teepee Tents Are Back!

Inspiration, Kids, Outdoors November 11th, 2008

It’s warming up a little here and if you need another idea for the kids, then how about buying a teepee for their imagination to go wild while playing outdoors….or if you’re house is big enough then they all work inside too.  You can get them at a couple of places here in Auckland –  Nature Baby – quite pricey at $395 or the cool Geronimo from Nest for a little more affordable $249.

Cathy Nichols – Artist

Art Beautiful Stuff, DIY, Paper, Textiles November 10th, 2008

Cathy shared with the Poppytalk crowd a while back, her encaustic process and it’s time I showed it to you folks.  As soon as I saw the finished product of the bride and groom floating, it reminded me of the exhibition I was lucky enough to see while in Paris, of Chagall.  Her panels and prints are whimsical and colourful….it’s like you are looking at a whole fairytale or the front page of a great book.  To purchase her pieces, go to her Etsy store or Poppytalk Handmade.  You’ll find it hard to choose which one to buy.

A Mix Of Tiles – DIY

DIY, Flooring, Inspiration, Interiors November 9th, 2008

If you are renovating or building right now, perhaps this image might help inspire the process.  I would love some stairs to tile the risers in similar patterns and colour.  If this is a little to pricey, then perhaps you could use wallpaper or contact adhesive to get the same look.

Laranjeiras House By Marcio Kogan

Cool Homes, Interiors November 8th, 2008

Yet another gorgeous home in South America.  This one border’s São Paulo and Rio and because it’s in a secure gated community it’s all open to enjoy the beaches and even has it’s own marina.  Wouldn’t you love a ‘pool room’ like this one!  To read more about it, see all the images and even the floor plan click here.

Kerry Rocks – Jewellery

Jewels November 7th, 2008

I think I discovered this jewellery flicking through InStyle Australia.  Kerry has been designing jewellery for six years and has a store in Sydney plus she is in boutiques across Australia.  Inspired by spending her time in Asia and Greece her pieces are eclectic and refreshing.  To browse the website you need a password, but just a quick email and you get an email right back so you can see her great collection of rings, necklaces and earrings.

DaWanda – Wassermann’s Shop

Art Beautiful Stuff, Jewels November 6th, 2008

DaWanda is the european version of Etsy and it’s just as good.  These goodies above are some of the beautiful creations from Ceeb Wassermann, who is a jeweler based in Australia.  And just like any online shop, you just add to the cart and pay via paypal.  My favourite is the bird necklace – take a look at her store right here.

Wallpaper For The Shoe Obsessed

Interiors, Paper, Windows + Walls November 5th, 2008

Now I love shoes, and really enjoy shopping for them, so when I saw this in your face wallpaper I really liked it.  Called Svarmor, I think it would be great in just a small area, like behind your shoes in the shoe closet, or as the liner on the shoe rack.  A piece across the smallest wall in your walk in closet, behind what else….the shoes!  Lisa Bengtsson is the designer behind this and many other great wallpaper designs.  You can view her collection right here, but if you just have to have this one, then try Lisa’s site or buy from designista.se.  About NZ$175 for a 10m roll.

The Wallflower Desk – The ‘Lean To’ For Small Spaces

Furniture, Home accessories, Inspiration November 4th, 2008

Down-under we call a small shed like addition to the side of a house, a ‘lean to’, and I thought of this as soon as I eyed this clever desk.  Called the Wallflower and designed by Jonas and Jonas, you have to go all the way to Germany or Switzerland to get one, but perhaps someone could whip something similar up down here.   I hope it has a couple of screws to attach it to the wall though, I could just see my six month old niece climbing and pulling her way up the leg of this.  It is such a great size for small spaces and we definitely have those in our home, plus master four could do with something like this in his room for colouring and painting!

Having Your Home Smell Just So…

DIY, Kitchen November 3rd, 2008

Some people bake cookies or bread before an open home if they are selling, so there’s a great smell in the house – how about this idea and not just if you’re selling.  Putting spices or citrus peelings etc into a pot and heating it on the stove for a bit.  If it’s winter and you have wide bar heaters or radiators then rest your mixture of choice on there and the warmth will have the smell permeating throughout your home.  If you have a bit extra time, read the comments on this post as they give you loads of different concoctions. These ingredients are inexpensive and always in your home!  Rosemary and Lemon…..or Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Cloves…..or Fresh Lavender….the ideas are endless!

Metal Art By Kristina Kozak

Art Beautiful Stuff, Inspiration, Outdoors November 2nd, 2008

It’s amazing how something so pretty can come from such a rough beginning.  Hunks of metal bent into beautiful designs will always be of interest to me.  I guess I am waiting for the day I get to choose something for my windows or doors or garden gate.  Kristina has a store Mine in Brooklyn NY, so if you need some metal work done or would just like to look through her cool store, take a look at her website here.
