At last, the nasty looking bicycle helmet has been redesigned.  Danish company Yakkay has designed the base called ‘the smart one’, you then choose a hat style and colour made to fit over it.   Still protected, but goes with your casual clothing – for those riders who don’t wear lycra!  So you still have the strap under your chin, but it’s still more discreet than the current helmets out there.  It retails for about EUR80 or NZ$180 and they are only available in the UK and Europe for now. Fortunately in New Zealand it is law to wear your helmet – no matter how ugly – but I do still see people who won’t wear them for ‘coolness’ reasons.  So stupid I know, but perhaps these are what’s needed to fill the ‘cool’ niche down here.
