NmG – ‘No More Gas’ by Myers Motors

Outdoors July 30th, 2008

Ok, so a car turning up here is a little different, I think it’s perhaps the colour that’s so enticing.  I’ve always wanted a Vespa motorcycle – it’s just not practical though with pretty skirts, heels and then the helmet hair, but this pocket rocket is quite cool.  Plug it in and a full charge takes 3 hours; it can go 120km (75mph); you can go for 48kms (30 miles); drive in the carpool lane because…..well, your car is fully occupied!  I think it’s a bit pricey at US$36,000 for a one seater, but it has a boot for the groceries and look at how close you can park to the Nicole Miller store (and there’s enough room for your friends one as well).  The perfect solution to the Vespa – you can still wear whatever you want – no flat helmut hair (with wild ends), and necessary motorcycle outfit.  For more info go here.

Hot Water Bottle Heaven – Cosy Covers

Home accessories, Kids, Textiles July 29th, 2008

I remember when Mum would put a hot water bottle into my bed to warm up the spot where my back would be when I climbed in.  It was the best feeling, warm and safe and cosy.  Then a little later in the night, I would nudge my bare foot against the ‘Hottie’ and it would be not quite so nice. These hot water bottle covers from Mummys Favourite would have been the perfect answer. They’re so cheery and bright and somewhat more glamourous than the flannelette envelopes mine are in! Maybe it’s time I upgraded.

Art from Little Paper Planes

Art Beautiful Stuff, Home accessories, Paper July 29th, 2008

Most of my art… ok all of my art is mine, I did it because I wanted big canvases to cover the walls and could not afford to pay $6000 a piece for something large.  But, I have also wanted to add a little collection of prints to a wall and came across these great pieces.  Starting at $10 they are simple pretty pieces and make me even happier because I am totally into turquoise – so satisfying that obsession for now.  Little Paper Planes have loads of great art and they ship internationally, take a look here.

Handbag Heaven & Ripper Rugs – Nicola Cerini

Clothes and Bags, Flooring, Textiles July 28th, 2008

Three of her handbags happen to be in my closet, no wait…two – my sister coveted one so that’s now on her shoulder.  They are a splendid mix of colour and practicality, and now Melbourne based Nicola Cerini also designs rugs.  Her range is warm, modern and richly coloured and she ships overseas so we can all enjoy her creations in the home or out and about.

Surfing So Stylish – Grain Surfboards

Art Beautiful Stuff, DIY, Inspiration, Outdoors July 27th, 2008

Oh my….I have always wanted to be able to surf, and these make me pine even more to ride with the tide. Grain Surfboards in Maine make wooden boards, offering a much “greener” alternative to foam core boards, mostly due to their beauty and durability, they are unlikely to end up in a landfill.  They offer over eight different surfboard options and even a Home Grown DIY kit.  The best news is that you can now get the Home Grown kits down under in New South Wales, Australia.  Capeboatworks are producing all of the kits in their shop using local farm grown Paulownia. So if you’re interested in one of them, check them out here. To view Grain’s gallery of photos click here or even better, the gallery of people who have made their own.

Iznik Tiles – Turkish Delight!

DIY, Flooring, Inspiration, Kitchen, Windows + Walls July 27th, 2008

I have only recently fallen in love with the colour blue – and there are so many ways to celebrate blue – be it brooding blue-grey, bright sapphire or pastel and pretty.  In my quest to address a shortfall of blue in my home, I went searching for tiles, and found Iznik Tiles in Sydney.  C Connection have unearthed wonderful handcrafted tiles from Turkey – where they have been manufactured since the 6th century BC. And the shades of blue? Gorgeous!  Trying to pick one tile pattern over another is my next dilemma. You can view and purchase the tiles and sets right here - what a striking accent in a bathroom or kitchen, or four of them joined would make the prettiest trivet.  While you are browsing, fall in love with the hexagonal Egyptian Box and the inlaid Backgammon sets.

The Walker House – Sydney

Cool Homes, Interiors, Windows + Walls July 26th, 2008

Awesome architecture.  I have always loved the Kaufmann House in Palm Springs California, and the Walker House is based on it.  Best thing, it’s in Sydney – not far away from where my husband and I lived in our pre-baby days, and it’s for sale!  At over AU$10 million it’s too much for us, but lets just soak up the calmness, the ambience, the space, the views, the grass and every other little bit – online at least. Click here for more images.

Laguiole – Dinnerware Delight

Home accessories, Kitchen July 26th, 2008

You know sometimes you visit someone’s house for dinner and they have that to-die-for accessory?  The secret? Laguiole.  French handmade table accessories that make the salad ‘THE SALAD’ – and in red, too – they call it ‘Bordeaux’.  I should put my salad servers out at the main course, then impress my guests with my impeccable taste once again when I pop the cheese on the table with the Laguiole Cheese set, again in red.  Just looking at this gorgeous tableware is enough to make you hungry.  To buy these or other lovely things from their collection, click here.

Tyre Swings – Fun for Everyone

DIY, Inspiration, Kids, Outdoors July 25th, 2008

I remember when we just used a piece of board attached to a rope at the big Macrocarpa tree at Grandmas, and that was fun, so could you just imagine how much more fun you could have on these! They are made from recycled tyres and have great moving parts.  Only one problem with them, the kids will never want to share, so you will have to buy two, or the whole lot depending on how many kids (or trees) you have.  If you don’t have a tree, don’t worry, buy one of their swinging frames or remove the plain old swing from the one you have in the backyard.  They start at about US$100 right here, or check out the Aussie version starting at AU$180 – they ship internationally.   The Dragon rules!

Fantastic Bird Feeders

DIY, Home accessories, Inspiration, Kids, Outdoors July 24th, 2008

My nearly four doesn’t eat his crusts, and rather than nagging at him each day, we go and throw it on the lawn for the birds – while it’s winter.  However, we also have a cat and she loves to sit close by and ‘talk’ to the birds which makes for a rather stressful ‘birdie lunchtime’.  This made me russle up a few great bird feeders for myself and others who want to feed the birds and not the cat!  From left to right, all in US$.

Ceramic Orb – $19

Egg Bird Feeder – $135

Popoutz 6 colours – from $2.25

Arcamita – on sale for $66

Eva Solo Bird Table – $205

Eva Solo Bird Feeder Takeaway – $56

Blomus Fuera Feeder or Bath – $123

Blomus Nido - $84

Blomus Nido curved – $37.61

Cantina – $185

Mod Pod Feeder – $34.99

The Lunchbox or the Earthenware Feeder – $84

Or make your own – there are some seriously hip DIY feeders to build!

Dogs Doing it For Themselves – Canine Fashion

Pets July 24th, 2008

Oh, this is a good (and cute) idea.  I get tired of carrying a hipsack with my dog’s ball and plastic bags etc inside it – now she can carry her own stuff!  My dog is black, so I would choose the red backpack for ordinary walks during the morning.  But for showing off at the school gate, or walking the strip shops, I would so get the camo print for a walk on the edgy side, plus she can carry my phone and keys!  Fluppies have so many other great fashion ideas for your furry best friend – check out the Angel Wing Harness, the Desperate Housedogs Tee, and the Fire Hydrant Tag. Something for every spoiled canine sidekick.

Dinosaur Designs – Drop Dead Gorgeous!

Art Beautiful Stuff, Flooring, Home accessories, Jewels, Kitchen, Textiles July 22nd, 2008

I can’t tell you how much I have wanted to own a ring, bangle and necklace from Dinosaur Designs.  The creations are to die for…..but everything about their lovely organic shape, feel and colour make it hard to choose just one item.  Their new Bamboo range is in gorgeous greens – among them are my favourite shades at present, turquoise and duck egg blue.  All the designs are hand made at their Sydney studio, and if you aren’t after a piece of jewellery, they also have stunning homeware, fabrics and rugs.  Take a look at all their beauty right here, shop online or find a stockist near you.

Bohaute or Boho

Clothes and Bags, Inspiration July 21st, 2008

Over at Creature Comforts I spotted this post that really sums up my blog name bohaute.  The whole collections of things is just so me.  Bohemian influenced design with crisp chic accents…I wish I could have explained it that well on my About page.  Oh, and that bag is on sale!

Monsters at Munch time – French Bull Plates and Cups

Kids, Kitchen July 21st, 2008

We have a collection of kids plates and cups all shapes and sizes and covered in one character or another from some movie or tv show.  It’s all a bit higglety pigglety, so I had a hunt around and came across these much groovier plates for the little man or lady in the family.  You can get French Bull Monster plates and cups online in NZ right here, if you’re not downunder then from their website.  They have a couple of other kids versions and also do cool tableware for grownups.

Note Couture – Personalised Stationery

Kids, Paper July 20th, 2008

Oh boy!  I am totally into paper for the moment – check out this groovy personalised stationery.  It has attitude if that’s what you want to convey – or keep it nice if that’s more your thing.  I always thought personalised stationery was for settled, older people – though always secretly coveted a notepad with my name atop the pages.  Note Couture can help you out – and it won’t break the bank.  Bring on the ‘Things to Do When I’m Not Hiding The Credit Card Bills‘ stationery.  That should fit the bill!  Designed and fashioned in Melbourne, Australia, the collection has over 300 images and they even have childrens and mens versions – note pads, note sheets, note cards, notebooks, to do lists, or you can customise your very own.

Nest Bowls by Morph

Home accessories, Kitchen July 20th, 2008

Don’t these just make you want to spend time in the kitchen, even if it is to just stack and re-stack them. The Nest range of kitchenware is designed by UK design firm Morph for Joseph Joseph in London and will be available in October.  They fit perfectly inside each other and take up no room at all – just like Babushka dolls!  Let’s hope they make it down under or someone will have to bring them back from London for me.
